Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Unveiling

This Wednesday we celebrated the unveiling of our newly expanded and renovated Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at The Hospitals of Providence Children’s Hospital.
Thank you to all our community partners who celebrated this important milestone with us. The renovation includes increase from 15 to 16 pediatric critical care beds, a newly created family lounge, a physician consultation room, an in-unit physician on-call room, two isolation-capable rooms and an ADA capable room. Additionally, the new unit includes Infant Abduction Security monitoring along with security camera monitoring for all hallways and corridors to ensure the safety of our patients and families. The addition of Space Labs monitoring in all 16 rooms. Space Labs is an electrocardiogram (EKG) monitoring system that can be accessed by physicians via an iPhone or iPad to observe pediatric patients’ vital signs in real time as seen by the nurse at their bedside. This system will allow our physicians to provide more effective and immediate care to children with cardiac problems.
Our PICU patients and their families will also have access to the GetWell Network system, an interactive system that offers patients and families education and information on their hospital stay, diagnosis, treatment and medications related to their care.
